Who is Liberty Lutheran?

Liberty Lutheran faithfully provides vital resources for individuals and families facing life-changing situations, from the earliest stages of life through the many stages of aging. The Liberty Family of Services are creating communities and changing lives by offering our help and support to people of all ages throughout Pennsylvania.

Today, Liberty Lutheran's more than 20 locations throughout Pennsylvania faithfully provide vital resources to more than 61,000 individuals and families every year. We continually seek to help those who are facing life-changing situations from the earliest stages of life through the many stages of aging.

Liberty Lutheran’s service history dates as far back as 1887. The original organizations to deliver services under the Liberty Lutheran brand were the senior communities, Paul's Run Retirement Community and Artman Lutheran, as well as Artman's health and wellness facility, the Becoming Center, and the social service agency, Lutheran Children and Family Service.

  • 2001

In January 2001, three Lutheran social service organizations merged their missions to care for the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of children, older adults and families. Together, we formed what is now known as Liberty Lutheran, a social ministry organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

  • 2005

In 2005, Liberty Lutheran diversified its services with the formation of Liberty at Home, a service designed to meet the needs of the growing number of seniors in our communities who want to maintain their independence but require in-home assistance. This was followed by the 2008 acquisition of the Mary J. Drexel Home for older adults. In 2013, Mary J. Drexel was renamed The Hearth at Drexel.

  • 2010

In 2010, we formalized our affiliation with Lutheran Congregational Services to benefit from the sharing of resources for congregational ministries.

  • 2012

In 2012, Liberty at Home partnered with the Lutheran Community at Telford to extend services to residents and individuals in Bucks and Upper Montgomery Counties.

  • Recent Milestones

The most recent addition to Liberty's Family of Services is the Village at Penn State, a university-based retirement community in State College, Pa.
