The Village at Penn State Opens First Class Park for Outdoor Recreation and Wellness
The Village at Penn State is thrilled to announce the opening of Palmer Park. Bringing a world of opportunity for outdoor recreation that promises to benefit the health and well-being of residents, families, and staff, excitement around the park has been stirring since its official debut for development in 2013.
Partnering with Arnold Palmer Design Company, the park includes a chipping and putting green, a multi-purpose green for outdoor recreational activities like bocce, corn hole, croquet, yoga, and tai chi as well as an outdoor terrace for al-fresco dining with a luxurious fire pit. In addition to golf and outdoor activities, the park features open walking paths lined with beautiful gardens for residents, staff, and families to enjoy.
Ellen Corbin, executive director of The Village, says that already, The Village’s more than 250 residents are making the most of this beautiful space and its various amenities.
The idea was to bring people pleasure in enjoying the outdoors and a green space and a way to provide recreation to people in their older years of life.Executive Director of The Village at Penn State, Ellen Corbin
Palmer Park was part of a larger renovation campaign that also began around six years ago. “We relocated our entrance. We now have a really nice, grand entrance and when you come in through our lobby you can look out the windows and see Beaver Stadium,” says Ellen.
Proud of their ties to Penn State University, the community even named one of their newest developments after Joe Paterno’s lifetime wins. “We have a new casual dining area called Bistro 409,” Ellen explains. “We wanted to add a little flavor of Penn State to our bistro. It’s decorated with all kinds of Penn State memorabilia.”
New developments also include a community room which Ellen says is a large gathering space, in an auditorium-style, for residents to gather and offer programming. Additionally, The Village renovated their library and added six new cottages that line the back of Palmer Park for residents to admire a beautiful view.
